Happy Halloween! Hope that everyone has a safe and fun weekend. Thank you for all your contributions and help with our Halloween party. We had a fun-filled week at school. We all enjoyed our first field trip to Pastorino Farms. Thank you to all the chaperones. The children went on a hay ride, train ride, and jumped in a jumpy as well as got to take home a pumpkin of their choice. We were glad that we were
able to have the pre-kindergarten class and teachers join us. I am hoping to have another field trip in December so if you were not able to go to Pasternio Farms you will have a chance to go on our next field trip. You must have a Shield the Vulnerable completion certificate on file here at school. Thank you to the room moms who helped organize this field trip. I appreciate your fine organizational skills. Happy Birthday to our friend Lorenzo!
On Saturday, November 1st it is All Saints Day. If you have any books that you would like to bring to school on Monday to share with the class that would be great.
The St. Thomas More Carnival was a huge success. I was happy to see so many kindergartners and had a fun time jumping in the jumpee with some of them. The kindergarten booth was fantastic. It was nice to see so many parents being of service and helping with this event.
This week we met Naughty Nick from Letter Land. The children have been teaching Naughty Nick how to be nice. We have been practicing writing all the letters that we have learned so far as well learning their accompanying sounds. We have put letters together to make words and have created a word wall in our classroom. We have learned many words and understand that many words rhyme because they have the same sound. We have been learning words like sat, cat, rat, pat, mat, hat, bat, and fat. We have also learned that when we put words together we make a sentence ex. The cat sat on the mat. Our reading groups have been working with Ms. O’Connor and eventually every student will be placed in a small reading group. Mrs. Clarke has done a wonderful job teaching the students all the sounds that our friends from Letter Land make. She knows the friends from Letter land very well.
The students practiced Aikido on Wednesday afternoon with me and have done a wonderful job following the given instructions and learning the breathing exercises and stretches that I have been teaching them. They seem to respond very well and enjoy the practice. I try to do this practice with the children once a week. If you are interested in helping me please e-mail me. I try and do the practice on either a Monday or Friday afternoon at 2:00.
On Friday, November 7th our class will have their first Fancy Friday lunch. Fancy Friday lunch will happen the first Friday of each month. I will set the classroom up as if the children are eating in a fancy restaurant. My goal is to reinforce good manners and to help them learn etiquette. This is also a nice way to implement community building within the classroom. I would be very appreciative if someone could bring in tablecloths, flowers or pretend candles for this event. If you bring in the tablecloths you can have them back. If you are able to come and join us for lunch during Fancy Friday that would be wonderful. I could have 5-7 parents for Fancy Friday. In order to spend time in the classroom you must have turned in the certificate for the Shield the Vulnerable training.
Next Friday, November 7th we will also be celebrating Gianna’s birthday at our Fancy Friday. Enclosed in your child’s folder you will see a letter written by her parents offering to provide pizza for the class, therefore for lunch on Friday, November 7th you will not have to provide a lunch for your child. If you would rather pack your child’s lunch for that day and not have them have pizza that would be fine.
Have a safe time trick or treating!
Thank you,
Miss Trout
